Charitible Mission of the Foundation, Organizations We Support

The Ryan Foundation donates to Humility Homes and Services, Inc.

The Ryan Foundation donated $420,000 to Humility Homes and Services, Inc. in December 2020.

Humility Homes and Services, Inc. (HHSI) provides the most comprehensive emergency shelter and supportive housing services for single adults, families, veterans, and persons with disabilities in the Greater Quad Cities area. HHSI owns 18 properties in Davenport, IA, which includes 41 apartments, a 70-bed emergency shelter, and the 10,000 square foot Fresh Start Donation Center. The organization leases an additional 52 apartments. On any given day, 250 – 300 adults and children are participating in their services. The organization also has outreach teams – staff and community partners visit parking lots, stairwells, abandoned buildings, and encampments making meaningful contact with persons living on the streets, providing emergency supplies such as water, hygiene products, cleansers, and referrals to appropriate services – and service coordinators who identify the most appropriate housing program and support services necessary to help participants achieve short and long-term housing stability.

Sister Miriam was a good friend of Dr. Ryan as they both grew up in Corning, Iowa. Sister Miriam is affiliated with the Congregation of Humility of Mary, which supports Humility Homes and Services, Inc. (HHSI). This connection led to Dr. Ryan to make sure that HHSI received support from the Ryan Foundation. The Ryan Foundation previously donated over $135,000 to HHSI from 2003 to 2012.

The donation will provide funding for the “Supportive Housing Pilot Project”, which will provide supportive housing for ten identified individuals experiencing chronic homelessness in the Quad City area. Additionally, this donation will allow the organization to purchase two properties consisting of eight affordable housing units for the organization. Together, these two new properties will grow HHSI’s housing portfolio by 18% to 72 total units.
