The Ryan Foundation Supports Affordable Housing Initiatives with Donation to Project Houseworks

The Ryan Foundation donated $600,000 to Project Houseworks in June 2024. This gift was designated for the acquisition of three parcels of real estate totaling 11,950 square feet, which will be developed into a finished office and warehouse space. The funding also supported site work, building renovations, furnishing, and infrastructure connectivity.

Project Houseworks provides affordable housing programs that promote homeownership and housing stability for vulnerable populations. The Home Affordability Program offers affordable homeownership opportunities, homeownership education, and homebuyer assistance to reduce cost burdens for families seeking affordable housing ($37,000–$58,000 or 50–80% of area median income) as well as workforce housing (income of $58,000–$88,000 or 80–120% of AMI).

The Senior Repair Program delivers no-cost solutions to help senior homeowners (age 60+) living at or below 50% of AMI remain in safe, healthy homes. Services include critical plumbing and electrical repairs, roof replacements, HVAC work, tub-to-shower conversions, grab bars, ramps, flooring repairs, and other modifications that support mobility, safety, and aging-in-place.

In addition, Project Houseworks hosts an annual volunteer event, Brush Up, which has matched teams with low-income seniors to paint homes at no cost for more than 30 years. In August 2022, over 450 volunteers painted 27 homes in the community.

The Ryan Foundation also contributed $156,000 to Project Houseworks in October 2022. That gift supported staff and consultant time for evaluating affordable housing new-build options, site acquisition recommendations, and construction planning for the most feasible projects.
