The Ryan Foundation Supports Caring for Children When They Need It Most
In July 2025, The Ryan Foundation donated $400,000 to Children's Nebraska Foundation in support of the 2025 Scholarship Fund, helping strengthen the hospital's Student to RN Sponsorship Program (S2RN). This innovative workforce development initiative prepares the next generation of pediatric nurses while helping ensure Children’s Nebraska continues to deliver exceptional care for years to come.
Since the program launched in 2019, 76 nursing students have participated in S2RN, with the 2025 cohort expanding by 20 additional students. The program has also achieved an impressive 95% retention rate during participants' first two years as nurses, demonstrating the value of early mentorship, hands-on clinical experience, and intentional career development.

Through the program, nursing students gain experience across multiple pediatric specialties, participate in cross-departmental shadowing opportunities, and complete senior-year preceptorships that build confidence before entering the workforce. These experiences not only prepare students for successful nursing careers but also strengthen Children's Nebraska's ability to recruit and retain highly skilled pediatric nurses.
The 2025 cohort includes students from six regional nursing programs: Creighton University, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Saint Mary, Midland University, Nebraska Wesleyan University, and Nebraska Methodist College. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to building Nebraska's future healthcare workforce.
The Ryan Foundation is honored to partner with Children's Nebraska Foundation in its commitment to improving the health and well-being of children and families. By investing in the next generation of pediatric nurses, we are helping strengthen the healthcare workforce while ensuring more children receive the exceptional care they deserve for generations to come.
